Project Summary
Video Fight Club was a community-driven comedy competition series created during the early days of YouTube. Each week, two creator-submitted sketch comedy videos faced off in a tournament-style bracket. Viewers watched both entries and voted for their favorite through online polls and video comments. The winning video advanced to the next round, returning to defend its title against a new challenger.
What began as a simple web series evolved into a multi-platform community event that combined video production, audience participation, livestreaming, and live comedy performances.
Video Fight Club is a weekly web war, a fight to the e-death, mano e video, between two comedic shorts.
Why It Matters: Built an audience-participation format years before creator competitions and interactive livestreams became common, combining online voting, creator submissions, live events, and media partnerships into a recurring entertainment property.
Viewers would watch both videos and vote for their favorite. The champion would return the following week to compete again.

What Made This Project Special
Video Fight Club turned passive viewers into active participants. Rather than simply watching content, audiences helped determine the outcome of each competition through their votes.
The project grew beyond YouTube through a partnership with CraveOnline, which hosted the official voting portal and featured winning creators. Live events were later held at IO West in Los Angeles, where audience votes from the theater were combined with online voting results.
As the series evolved, hosting duties expanded beyond Sam Proof to include members of the Los Angeles improv community from Upright Citizens Brigade and IO West, creating a collaborative showcase for both online creators and live performers.
