This week on Who Would Win Masters we’re back with a truck stop quarrel that pitts the 80s against the 90s in an action hero rumble with Jack Burton against John Spartan!
-Jack Burton is a fast talking, truck driving hero from the movie Big Trouble in Little China. Jack was created by John Carpenter, played by Kurt Russell, and debuted in 1986.
-Meanwhile, John Spartan is a cryo-frozen Supercop from the 1990’s who was thawed out to catch his nemesis in the 2030’s. Spartan was created by Daniel Waters, Robert Reneau, and Peter M. Lenkov for the movie Demolition Man in 1993. John Spartan was of course played by Sylvester Stallone.
-Both characters are known for their physicality and quick thinking. Jack Burton squared off against both Chinese gangsters as well as supernatural creatures, while John Spartan fought an enhanced criminal and his crew in a more science fiction setting.
-One thing is for certain in this battle, and that is collateral damage.
Taking on Jack Burton in debate and quotables is Repped by Kevin Gootee who will face off with Ray Stakenas on the side of John Spartan.

FAQ Section
❓ FAQ: Jack Burton – Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
- Who is Jack Burton?
He’s a loudmouth, truck-driving, tank-top-wearing “hero” who often stumbles into victories. He talks big… and sometimes backs it up. - Is Jack actually the main hero?
Not really! Despite being the lead, he’s more comic relief. Wang Chi does most of the actual heroic stuff — Jack’s basically the sidekick in a main character’s body. - What’s the deal with the Pork-Chop Express?
Jack’s beloved semi-truck. He spends the whole movie trying to get it back after it’s stolen — it’s basically his version of a Batmobile. - Does Jack have any powers?
Nope. Just pure bravado, luck, and a hell of a right hook (when he remembers to take the safety off his gun). - Why is Big Trouble in Little China considered a cult classic?
It’s a genre-bending mix of kung fu, mysticism, comedy, and 80s cheese. Think: “Indiana Jones meets Lo Pan’s Magic Mayhem.” - Who is the villain Jack fights?
Lo Pan — an ancient sorcerer cursed with immortality (but no flesh form) until he marries a green-eyed girl. You know, typical wedding drama. - Does Jack get the girl in the end?
Nope. He walks off into the rain, leaving Kim Cattrall’s Gracie Law behind. Lone wolf style.
❓ FAQ: John Spartan – Demolition Man (1993)
- Who is John Spartan?
Nicknamed “The Demolition Man,” he’s a no-nonsense, explosion-prone cop from 1996, cryogenically frozen and thawed out in 2032. - What makes Spartan so dangerous?
He’s all instinct, brute force, and one-liners. Think: if Dirty Harry and a wrecking ball had a baby. He solves problems with guns, grenades, and… headbutts. - Why was he frozen in the first place?
He was blamed for collateral deaths during a mission to stop his archenemy Simon Phoenix. Spoiler: he was framed. - How does Spartan handle the future?
Badly. He hates the pacifist, Taco Bell–eating, swearing-is-illegal, toilet-paperless world of 2032. He’s all about old-school grit. - What are the “three seashells”?
No one knows. No one will know. It’s a cruel mystery the future guards with savage humor. - Does he adapt or rebel against the future?
He punches the future in the face. Literally. Spartan refuses to conform and ends up rebooting society to a rougher, freer version. - Who does Spartan team up with?
Sandra Bullock’s Lenina Huxley — a future cop obsessed with the 90s. They make an odd but fun action duo.
