In a recent blog post, Twitch’s Chief Product Officer and Chief Monetization Officer outlined the company’s plans for 2023, with a focus on community growth and earnings for streamers. In the first half of the year, Twitch will be launching new products and tools to facilitate deeper community interaction and streamer earnings, while also improving existing products.

Giving Streamers More Options to Earn

Twitch is focused on helping streamers earn more while also growing their communities. One of the new experiences they are launching is Sound Bites, which are first-party sound alerts that allow viewers to pay to interact with and support their favorite streamers. Another new feature is an update to Cheering, which will give streamers the ability to recognize viewers in more personalized ways.

Our main focus for the year is your growth — both for your communities and for your earnings on Twitch. In the first half of 2023, we’re launching products and tools that make it easier for you to earn without impacting growth, while also improving many of our existing products by expanding their capabilities so they can work harder for you. — Twitch

Twitch is also building on the success of events like SUBtember, which have a positive impact on streamers’ earnings, to find more ways to encourage viewers to support channels. This includes more customized local initiatives to help boost support from viewers, as well as personalized discounts based on viewers’ behavior to better inspire streamer support.

Promoting Your Stream on Other Platforms

Promoting your stream on other platforms is a key part of helping viewers discover your channel, but it can take hours of work to make promotional content. To make this process easier, Twitch is launching tools to help streamers edit and export clips for vertical, short-form video formats. They are also working with Twitter to improve how clips and live stream links play in the feed.

Helping Viewers Discover Your Content

Twitch is also giving streamers more tools to help viewers discover their content, including Pinned Clips, which will allow streamers to pin up to 20 clips to their channel page, providing new viewers with a better idea of what their stream is about. Stream Title emotes will allow streamers to add emotes into their stream title, and the Upcoming Streams section is coming to Twitch mobile apps, helping viewers keep track of and tune in to streams for all the streamers they follow, all in one place.

Making Running Ads Easier and Better

Twitch is updating the Ads Incentive Program to make it easier and more flexible for streamers. The program will be more flexible in terms of the number of ads streamers can run, and disabling pre-rolls will also be made easier. Twitch is also experimenting with ways to give communities a heads up when ads are coming and the ability to snooze video mid-roll ads.

Improving Guest Star for Easier Collaboration and Customization

Streamers have been playing together since Twitch was invented, but the solutions available have not allowed members of both communities to interact. Utilizing the technology built for Guest Star, Twitch is going to experiment with experiences that will enable truly cross-channel streaming experiences.

In conclusion, Twitch’s 2023 Lookahead is filled with exciting new features and tools that are aimed at helping streamers grow their communities and earnings. From Sound Bites and updates to Cheering, to Pinned Clips, Stream Title emotes, and the Upcoming Streams section, Twitch is giving streamers more options to engage with and monetize their audiences. The Ads Incentive Program is also getting an update, making it easier and more flexible for streamers to run ads without impacting their growth. Additionally, Guest Star is being improved to enable truly cross-channel streaming experiences, and streamers will have more ways to celebrate and recognize their viewers.

It’s clear that Twitch is putting a lot of effort into helping streamers succeed, and these new features and tools are a testament to that. As a streamer myself, I’m incredibly excited and intrigued to see these new features implemented and how they’ll impact my own community and earnings. I’ll be discussing these new updates in more detail on an upcoming live stream. Don’t miss it!
