Summary:

John Lacey and Sam Proof discussed the importance of not spreading oneself too thin across multiple platforms when creating video live streaming content. They also reflected on what they have learned this year in regards to this topic. The two suggested that it is best to focus on two to three platforms and if there is extra time, one can expand on that. They also discussed that over-investment in too many platforms can lead to burnout.

The speaker primarily focuses on Twitch for their own content and the kitten cam, but is also paying attention to YouTube Shorts and Tick Tock. They have also added AMP, Amazon’s live radio mobile app, to their focus. The speaker recommends that if one has the time and it’s not too difficult, they should upload content to various places, but also customize it for other platforms.

Short form video content is becoming increasingly popular and has the potential to generate awareness for a new channel. Repurposing content into different formats can be beneficial, as it can lead to more views on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok. Metadata can be added to videos, but it is important to make sure the content is tailored to each platform. It is also important to not forget about the user experience when repurposing content.

Vertical video and shorts have become increasingly popular, with viewers often viewing them more than long form videos. This has led to new opportunities for content creators to monetize their work through brand deals, although it is important to note that vertical videos have a shorter lifespan, as they are not as evergreen as longer form videos. However, content creators can still make the most of this format by repurposing content whenever possible, as this will save time and energy.

Reusing content across social media platforms is a legitimate strategy, as it can help to reach a larger audience. It is a tactic that has been around for some time, and is worth considering. Content creators may be self-conscious about repeating content, but it is important to remember that not everyone sees the content the first time, or even the fifth or tenth time. Therefore, if something is worth saying, it is worth saying more than once.

Someone recently suggested that if you make a mistake in a video, people will be more likely to remember it. Adorian Deck, a famous YouTuber who created OMG Facts before selling it, recently experienced this phenomenon when he made a slip of the tongue in one of his facts videos and subsequently made another video acknowledging the mistake, which garnered a million views. It appears that mistakes can be beneficial in terms of engagement. However, some people cynically add typos to their videos on purpose, which may not be the best approach.

This year, John purchased a Teleprompter, which they attached to their Elgato Multi Mounts with strong arm mounts. They argue that there is a false dichotomy between reading and speaking extemporaneously and that people should practice reading if they are not good at it. The teleprompter comes with a remote that connects to the speaker’s phone via Bluetooth, allowing them to get a decent take quickly and maintain eye contact with their audience.

Joihn has revolutionized their content creation process by investing in a teleprompter unit for a couple of hundred dollars Australian. They recommend beginners to utilize teleprompter apps available on phones or browsers and to have either a complete script or bullet points written beforehand. This is to help with improvisation when recording content and to eliminate any potential friction in the content creation process.
